Metalworkers offered pay hikes, some topping last year levels
TOKYO, Japan - An official of the Japan Council of Metal Workers' Unions writes the amounts of pay hikes offered by the management of the auto, steel, shipbuilding and electrical appliance industries on a board at the council's office in Tokyo's Yaesu district on March 14. If the unions accept the offers, the average pay hike for all industries is likely to surpass last year's 2.06% raise, a record low.
