Sharp adopts Java for PDA series

TOKYO, Japan - Sharp Corp. said March 23 it has adopted the Java programming language for its personal digital assistant (shown in handout photo), mobile phones and other electronics gadgets with telecommunications functions. Sharp plans to take the wraps off its multimedia-savvy PDAs in the United States and wireless PDAs in Europe this fall, equipping them with Linux and Zaurus operating systems that will use Java for compatibility with numerous domestic and overseas application programs.
