Bush nominates Baker as new Japan envoy
WASHINGTON, United States - Howard Baker (file photo), former Republican Senate majority leader and White House chief of staff, has been nominated as ambassador to Japan, the White House announced March 26. U.S. President George W. Bush said the appointment of Baker, 75, who has strong connections with both the White House and Congress, reflects the priority he puts on U.S.-Japan relations.
