Japan issues visa to Taiwan's Lee, China protests
TOKYO, Japan - Foreign Minister Yohei Kono is surrounded reporters at the prime minister's official residence in Tokyo on April 20 after talking with Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori about an issuance of an entry visa for former Taiwan President Lee Teng-hui. Japan issued the visa for Lee to come to Japan for a medical checkup despite strong opposition from Beijing, which regards Taiwan as a renegade province.
