Lockheed scandal convict Ito dies of heart failure
TOKYO, Japan - Former Marubeni Corp. Senior Managing Director Hiroshi Ito (photo taken in February 1977), convicted for his role in the 1976 Lockheed payoff scandal, died of heart failure at a Tokyo hospital June 10. He was 74. Ito was sentenced to two years in prison in 1983 for his role in paying 500 million yen in bribes to Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka to have All Nippon Airways buy Lockheed Corp.'s TriStar jets.
