Antinuclear torch relay begins in Hiroshima
HIROSHIMA, Japan - An antinuclear torch relay begins in Hiroshima Prefecture on June 19 to underscore the hope that the world will be free of war and nuclear attacks during the 21st century. A 12-member leadoff group of runners started the 20th relay from Hiroshima Peace Park at 8:15 a.m., the time the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945. The relay will cover about 1,816 kilometers in the prefecture, ending on July 26.
