Tanaka says Yanai should remain ambassador to U.S.

TOKYO, Japan - Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka tells Foreign Ministry staff on Aug. 2 she intends to go through with her plan to retain Japanese Ambassador to the United States Shunji Yanai for the time being, despite reported instructions to the contrary from Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.
