Court nixes gov't approval of elevated railway project
TOKYO, Japan - Plaintiffs and their attorneys give a news conference Oct. 3 after the Tokyo District Court handed a ruling in their favor. The verdict ordered the government to cancel a 1994 permit allowing the ongoing construction of a 6.5-kilometer elevated railroad in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward. The plaintiffs, who are residents living along the railway, have expressed concerns about excessive noise.
