U.N., Annan win Nobel Peace Prize
NEW YORK, United States - U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan smiles at a news conference at the U.N. Headquarters on Oct. 12 after he won the Nobel Peace Prize for 2001 jointly with the United Nations. Annan, a 63-year-old Ghanaian who took the helm of the world body in January 1997, said he feels humbled but excited in being awarded the peace prize jointly with the 189-member world body.
