Shakuhachi player Shimabara dies at 100
HIROSHIMA, Japan - Photo taken in March 1982 shows Hanzan Shimabara, a revered shakuhachi (bamboo flute) player, who died of pneumonia Dec. 16 at a Hiroshima hospital, aged 100. Shimabara, whose real name was Shigezo Shimabara, was from the city of Hiroshima and designated a ''living national treasure'' in 1982.
