Kabul asks Japan's help in reconstructing Buddha statues
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - House of Representatives member Kenshiro Matsunami says Dec. 23 that Raheed Makhdoom, minister of information and culture of the new interim government of Afghanistan, has asked for Japan's cooperation in reconstructing two giant Buddha statues in Bamyan Province that were destroyed by the Taliban in March. Matsunami attended the inauguration ceremony for the interim government Dec. 22 in Kabul.
