NPA shows off new police ID, badges

TOKYO, Japan - The National Police Agency (NPA) on Jan. 17 released new police ID and badges designed to better identify officers and improve accountability following a series of police scandals. The ID consists of a badge and photo in a case. The other badges, to be worn by uniformed officers, are an additional feature. They bear two letters indicating an officer's affiliation and three identification numbers.
