(2)Gas pipe laid at Miyakajima volcano crater
TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken by the Metropolitan Anti-Disaster Headquarters on April 14 shows the pipeline laid at the top of Mt. Oyama, the active volcano on Miyakejima Island, to collect poisonous gas for analysis from the crater basin about 200 meters below. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the amount of sulfur dioxide (SO2) spewed into the atmosphere by Mt. Oyama is almost equal to the 15 million tons of SO2 generated in total by active volcanoes around the world in a year.
