Arafat seeks Japan's contribution to Mideast peace
JERUSALEM, Israel - Taku Yamasaki (R), secretary general of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, met with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (L) on May 3 at Arafat's headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah, where Arafat had been under virtual house arrest for one month until May 2. In the meeting, Arafat urged Japan to play an active role in helping put the staggering Mideast peace process back on track, Japanese officials said.
