Japan's Jan.-March GDP up 1.4%, 1st rise in year
TOKYO, Japan - Economic minister Heizo Takenaka smiles at a news conference at his office June 7 after announcing that Japan's economy expanded a real 1.4% in the January-March period on a quarterly basis, growing for the first time in a year. The gross domestic product (GDP) growth translates into an annualized expansion of 5.7%.
