IBM 'Millipede' fits 25 mil. pages on stamp-sized medium
NEW YORK, United States - Two photos show a new data storage medium developed by International Business Machines Corp. IBM said June 11 the storage medium is dense enough to fit 25 million printed textbook pages on a surface the size of a postage stamp, 20 times greater than the densest magnetic storage now available. Its research project code-named ''Millipede'' is like a nanotechnology version of old-fashioned punch-card data processing developed more than 110 years ago. However, Millipede media are rewriteable and may be able to store more than 3 billion bits of data in the space occupied by just one hole in a standard punch card, IBM said.
