Robot World Cup soccer competition opens in Fukuoka

FUKUOKA, Japan - ASIMO, a humanoid robot created by Honda Motor Co., shoots a penalty kick in an opening event June 19 for RoboCup 2002 Fukuoka/Pusan at Fukuoka Dome. Some 200 teams from 30 countries are taking part in the weeklong competition, the sixth such international event featuring autonomous soccer-playing and rescue robots.
