Yahoo Japan adds image search function to auction site

TOKYO, Japan - Yahoo Japan Corp., operator of Japan's top Internet portal site Yahoo! Japan, said July 18 it has added a new technology to its auction site (photo) that allows users to search for images quickly on the Internet. It is the first time that an image search function has been introduced on Internet auction sites, the company said. The new technology, developed by office automation equipment maker Ricoh Co., can search for images that have similar patterns, colors and other characteristics among vast amounts of images on the Internet.

Konica, Minolta set to launch holding company for integration

TOKYO, Japan - The new logo is displayed Aug. 4 for Konica Minolta Holdings Inc., which will be set up by Japanese camera and office equipment makers Konica Corp. and Minolta Co. on Tuesday for the integration of their business operations scheduled for Oct. 1. The holding company will challenge the top three leaders in the precision instrument industry -- Canon Inc., Fuji Photo Film Co. and Ricoh Co.

Fusion is the first phone operator in Japan to offer a uniform long-distance rate irrespective of the distance and the time or day of a call.
