Shionogi's new mid-term management plan briefing

On the 1st, Shionogi announced a new mid-term management plan to invest 500 billion yen in expanding overseas business and launching new businesses by FY2024. The company will also increase research and development expenses by 20% over the past five years to about 342.1 billion yen. In addition to strengthening its own sales of pharmaceuticals in Japan and overseas, the company will also invest heavily in products and services other than ethical drugs, such as vaccines.In terms of sales strategy, the company plans to strengthen its sales in the U.S. and China, and increase the ratio of overseas sales to more than 50% in FY2012 (18.5% in FY2007). President Tedairogi said, "We aim to become a drug discovery company that people from outside the company want to work with," and also indicated that the company will place importance on alliance strategies. Current Toshiba "SCiB" products

Toshiba is planning to commercialize the next generation of its proprietary SCiB lithium-ion rechargeable batteries in fiscal 2020 or later, with an energy density that is more than 50% higher than that of conventional products. The company has already developed a prototype cell at its research laboratory and will establish mass production technology. While SCiBs are strong in terms of longevity and fast charging performance, energy density, which leads to higher battery capacity, has been an issue. The company aims to expand its business by focusing on hybrid vehicles (HV), railroads and stationary applications. However, in the lithium-ion battery market as a whole, major manufacturers in Japan, China and South Korea are competing with each other. Fully automated aseptic cell separation system from Mitsui Denki Seiki

Mitsui Denki Seiki (Noda City, Chiba Prefecture) has developed a fully automated aseptic cell separation system. It is characterized by the fact that it does not require human intervention and does not require facilities such as clean rooms. The device developed by Mitsui Denki Seiki draws blood or body fluids from an infusion bag directly into the main body using a large syringe without using test tubes, and separates it into multiple components to recover the desired components. The Niigata University School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Engineering of Chiba University cooperated in the demonstration tests and the design, respectively. It is 325 mm wide, 430 mm high, and 385 mm deep, and weighs 26.3 kilograms. Toshiba Information Systems Develops Voice-Controlled Work Support System

Toshiba Information Systems (Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture) has developed a work support system called "Shinan Meijin," which allows users to view manuals and other information only by voice operation. The system can be used by registering manuals and work checklists in advance. Just by giving voice instructions, the system displays the manual and other information on a wearable device in the form of glasses, and allows the user to move the position, zoom in and out, and so on. It is expected to be used in situations where both hands are often occupied, such as at factory work sites. Toshiba Information Systems is also involved in products that use artificial intelligence (AI) to support work.
