Japan midfielder Santos arrives back in Japan

NARITA, Japan - Japan and Shimizu S-Pulse midfielder Alessandro Santos arrives back at Narita airport from England on Aug. 30 after his transfer deal with English premier league club Charlton Athletic was scrapped. The Brazilian born winger, who had been set to sign for the south London club only for the British government to refuse him a work permit, admitted he was disappointed at the outcome but vowed to ''keep his chin up'' and start afresh at Shimizu. Shakhtar Donetsk win Ukrainian Cup for 14th time

RIVNE, UKRAINE - MAY 15, 2024 - Midfielder Taras Stepanenko (C) of FC Shakhtar Donetsk is seen in action with players of FC Vorskla Poltava during the 2023/24 Ukrainian Cup final match at the Avanhard Stadium, Rivne, western Ukraine. The Orange-and-Blacks claimed a 2-1 win over their rivals from Poltava and took home the Ukrainian Cup for the 14th time. On May 11, the Miners won the 2023/24 Ukrainian Premier League title early by beating FC Dynamo Kyiv 1-0 in Lviv. Thus, the Donetsk team achieved a golden double for the 2023/24 season and became the most decorated club since Ukraines independence with 39 trophies.
