Global sales of Prius hybrid car top 100,000

NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. said Sept. 25 that cumulative global sales of its Prius hybrid passenger car (in photo) topped 100,000 units in August, claiming the sales have contributed to reducing carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas, by the same amount emitted by 10,000 Japanese households annually. She is further adding, ''Solar energy and energy transition are critical in the fight against climate change. To support the energy transition, I am proposing to expand the list of exempted capital goods for use in the manufacture of solar cells and panels in the country. However, in view of the sufficient domestic manufacturing capacities for solar glass, glass, and thinned copper interconnect, I am proposing not to extend the exemption of customs duties provided to them.''
