(3)Asian Games open in Pusan
PUSAN, South Korea - The Afghan delegation, led by a woman bearing Afghanistan's new flag, marches into Pusan Asiad Stadium as the Asian Games open on Sept. 29. Their entry marked the country's return to international sporting events. In 1999, the International Olympic Committee withdrew its recognition of the Afghan Olympic Committee because of the Taliban government's policy of prohibiting women from competing in sports. (Kyodo)
