Street smokers in central Tokyo to face 2,000 yen fine

TOKYO, Japan - Cigarette patrol wardens collect cigarette butts at Kanda railway station on Oct. 1 after Chiyoda Ward in central Tokyo implemented an ordinance to fine street smokers and butt throwers 2,000 yen. Wardens will only issue warnings to offenders during October and the fine will be enforced from Nov. 1. (Kyodo)

Station-side robot demonstration experiment started by Connected Robotics and others

On the 16th, Connected Robotics (Koganei City, Tokyo), in collaboration with JR East Startup (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) and Nippon Restaurant Enterprise (Taito Ward, Tokyo), began a demonstration experiment of an "ekisoba (buckwheat noodle) robot" at a soba (buckwheat noodle) restaurant in JR Higashi Koganei Station. The aim of the experiment is to verify the practicality of the robot in actual shops, and to introduce it to other shops in the future and automate the entire operation. The boiling machine and sink were also custom-made to fit the robot. In the future, the company hopes to increase the processing capacity of the robot and introduce it at stores with a large number of customers, such as Shinjuku and Kanda in Tokyo. Shinkawa Electric's vibration monitoring sensor "Zerk X8

The connected sensors acquire analog data such as temperature, pressure, water level and flow rate as well as vibration. The data is sent via wireless LAN to an antenna several dozen meters away. The data is collected in the "Machine Dossier" cloud system. The data is displayed in an easy-to-understand manner using graphs and other data. Amazon's Amazon Web Services (AWS) is used as the system infrastructure. The data can be easily viewed on smartphones and other devices. The annual fee for using the system is 48,000 yen (excluding consumption tax) for each eight-point sensor. SEC of America (North Carolina), a wholly owned subsidiary in the U.S., develops and produces the system. Shinkawa Sensor Technology (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo), a subsidiary in Japan, will develop and produce higher-specification non-contact vibration sensors.
