Nikkei briefly drops below 9,000

TOKYO, Japan - The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average on the Tokyo Stock Exchange temporarily fell below the 9,000 mark on Oct. 3 for the first time in a month on renewed concerns over the Japanese economy and falls in U.S. shares overnight. The key index ended the day's morning session at 9,015.41, off 33.92 points. (Kyodo)
