Nikkei ends below 9,000 for 1st time in 19 yrs
TOKYO, Japan - Tokyo stocks dropped Oct. 3, driving the key Nikkei index to close at 8,936.43 (shown on board), or below 9,000 for the first time in 19 years. Investors grew concerned over ways to tackle the bad-loan problem at banks and recent weakness in U.S. share prices. (Kyodo)
