New costumes for 'Jidai Matsuri' unveiled
KYOTO, Japan - New costumes to be worn by participants in this year's ''Jidai Matsuri (Festival of the Times)'' in Kyoto are shown for media preview on Oct. 11. Organizers said it cost about 8 million yen to make the new costumes and ornaments and repair the old ones. Jidai Matsuri, which starts on Oct. 22, begun in 1895 when the Heian Shrine was built to commemorate the 1,100th anniversary of the founding of Kyoto, originally known as the capital Heiankyo.
