Prices keep on soaring in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Men shop at an open-door market in Baghdad on Oct. 17. The value of the national currency has fallen to 2,000-2,300 dinar to the U.S. dollar from 1,940 dinar in spring this year, pushing up prices of imports. The price of beef has gone up to 4,000 dinar from 2,500 dinar and that of a packet of U.S. cigarettes to 2,000 dinar from 1,759 dinar. ''The economic sanction is to blame, not our government,'' said an anonymous citizen. (Kyodo)
