Groundbreaking ceremony for Afghan road repair project held

KABUL, Afghanistan - A groundbreaking ceremony for an internationally funded project to repair a 500-kilometer stretch of highway linking Afghanistan's capital with the southern city of Kandahar is held Nov. 10 in a Kabul suburb, attended by Afghan President Hamid Karzai (L) and Japanese Ambassador Kinichi Komano (C). The road improvement work is part of the $180 million aid project, financed by Japan, the United States and Saudi Arabia, for the war-torn country. (Kyodo)
