Nara to tap into hot spring to attract visitors
NARA, Japan - Nara, an ancient Japanese city which has been overshadowed by the nearby ancient capital Kyoto, is planning to dig a hot spring near Sarusawa Pond (file photo) in the middle of the city in a bid to attract more overnight visitors. While nearly a quarter of visitors to Kyoto stay overnight, less than 2 million out of 13 million annual visitors to Nara -- about 15% -- are overnight visitors, according to the city's statistics.
