Stranded whale on Japanese coast turns out to be rare species
KAGOSHIMA, Japan - The 6.5-meter-long whale (photo provided by Kagoshima City Aquarium), which was found stranded on the coast in Sendai, Kagoshima Prefecture, on July 26, has been identified as a mature female Longman's beaked whale. According to researchers, there have only been six other confirmations of the species in the world. (Kyodo)
