Bridgestone shows off world's biggest tire

TOKYO, Japan - Bridgestone Corp. exhibited what it claims to be the biggest tire in the world at its factory in Kodaira, western Tokyo, on Jan. 21. The 5.1-ton tire is 4.02 meters in diameter and made specifically for 350-ton trucks used for carrying ore at mines in North America and Indonesia, Bridgestone officials said. The tires cost 3.5 million yen each. (Kyodo)

The data is sent via wireless LAN to an antenna several dozen meters away. The data is collected in the "Machine Dossier" cloud system. The data is displayed in an easy-to-understand manner using graphs and other data. Amazon's Amazon Web Services (AWS) is used as the system infrastructure. The data can be easily viewed on smartphones and other devices. The annual fee for using the system is 48,000 yen (excluding consumption tax) for each eight-point sensor. SEC of America (North Carolina), a wholly owned subsidiary in the U.S., develops and produces the system. Shinkawa Sensor Technology (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo), a subsidiary in Japan, will develop and produce higher-specification non-contact vibration sensors.                     Pureron Japan (Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture) started operation of "the fourth factory" that manufactures the metal processing precision parts. The production system is strengthened by investing 2 billion yen. Pureron Japan manufactures filters and other products, mainly sensors for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Semiconductor-related products account for 80% of the company's sales, and industrial and medical equipment accounts for 20%. It was judged that the market of the precision equipment related to the semiconductor would grow in the world, and it was decided to strengthen the production system greatly together with the medical equipment to be strengthened from now on.
