Toyota to enter NASCAR truck race in 2004

NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. will begin participating in 2004 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series by racing trucks based on its Tundra trucks (photo) manufactured at a plant in Indiana, the automaker said on Feb. 13. Toyota's Tundra trucks will make their racing debut at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida in February 2004. (Kyodo)

Toyota markets hard-top convertible Soarer

NAGOYA, Japan - Photo shows a hard-top convertible version of Toyota Motor Corp.'s luxury Soarer passenger car the automaker has put on the Japanese market. Toyota said April 3 the four-seat coupe with an engine displacement of 4292 cc features an electrically powered aluminum top that can be stored in the trunk.

Toyota to take 49% stake in Fuji Int'l Speedway circuit

Toyota releases box-shaped car targeted at young motorists

NAGOYA, Japan - Photo shows the ''bB,'' a box-shaped car released by Toyota Motor Corp. on Feb. 2 in line with the automaker's efforts to capture the market of motorists in their 20s. The standard 1.3S model has an engine displacement of 1,300 cc and is priced at 1,298,000 yen in areas excluding Hokkaido and Okinawa Prefecture. The bB uses the same platform as Toyota's popular Vitz car and its box-like exterior allows the kind of interior space found in larger vehicles.

Toyota, GM develop world's smallest EV charging system

NAGOYA, Japan - Photo shows what Toyota Motor Corp. claims to be the world's smallest inductive charging system for electric vehicles. Toyota announced Nov. 29 it has jointly developed the system with U.S. automaker General Motors Corp. The system does not require the charger to be installed in the car, and so is smaller and lighter than conventional systems that require onboard chargers.
