Sega, Sammy scrap merger plan

TOKYO, Japan - Hideki Sato (L), president of Sega Corp., the struggling one-time leading maker of game software, speaks to reporters at the Tokyo Stock Exchange about a collapsed merger plan with pachinko machine manufacturer Sammy Corp.               Masahiro Sakurai, the mayor of Kashiwazaki City in Niigata Prefecture, said on April 19 that the decommissioning plan for the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station submitted by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Holdings, Inc. In August, the company announced its intention to decide on a policy of decommissioning one or more nuclear reactors within five years if it were to resume operations of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa No. 6 and No. 7 reactors and secure a non-fossil power source ratio of more than 40%, combining renewable energy and nuclear power. Although the reactors passed the government's safety inspection in December 2017, Niigata Governor Hideyo Hanazumi has said that he will not discuss restarting the reactors until the results of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Accident Verification Commission's review are available.                   Hamabe Seisakusho has installed a punch/fiber laser multifunction machine at its main factory, which will be operational within the month. The investment will amount to 200 million yen. The combined punch and fiber laser machine will be operated unmanned 24 hours a day, including die changes, to improve processing efficiency and save manpower. The machine is also equipped with a material feeder and product accumulator, which automatically feeds six types of materials at the right time to handle small-lot, high-mix sheet metal processing. With the introduction of a punch/fiber laser multifunction machine, the company aims to increase productivity in sheet metal processing, improve its ability to respond to single-part orders and short delivery times, and also acquire new orders. The company had been using separate machines for turning and drilling, but as the workpieces have become larger and the time required for moving and processing them has increased, the company has decided to use a single machine to improve efficiency.
