Japan to enact 1st war-contingency laws
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi (R) is in talks with main opposition Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) leader Naoto Kan in the Diet on May 13 on a set of government-sponsored bills aimed to give Japan its first full legal framework to respond to a foreign attack. The two leaders agreed to compromise on disputed points to pave the way for enactment of the bills in June. (Kyodo)
