Hitachi devises vacuuming robot with memory function

TOKYO, Japan - Hitachi Ltd. on May 29 unveiled a prototype cleaning robot (photo) that vacuums the floor by memorizing the location of obstacles and other features of the room in advance. A commercial model will be released within a few years, Hitachi said. The prototype saucer-shaped robot is 25 centimeters across and 13 cm high, the smallest machine of its kind ever developed in the world, according to Hitachi. (Kyodo)
