English conversation robot 'Charpy' getting popular

TOKYO, Japan - An English conversation robot for kids called ''Charpy Chocolate'' (in photo) has been getting popular since it was introduced in April. CAI Media Joint Development Co. in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, which developed the bird-shaped robot said it has already sold 1,300 of the robots on the Internet at a price tag of 34,800 yen. Charpy is the first Japanese robot that can hold relatively high-level English conversations, the company said. (Kyodo)
