Printing of new 1,000 yen bills begins

TOKYO, Japan - Printing of redesigned 1,000 yen bills (photo), whose front features Japanese microbiologist Hideyo Noguchi (1876-1928), known for his research on yellow fever in Africa, starts on Oct. 24. The new 1,000 yen note, which carries a picture of Mt. Fuji and cherry blossoms on the back, will go into circulation in July 2004. (Kyodo)
