Top U.S. commander in Okinawa reluctant about cutting troops

NAHA, Japan - Okinawa Area Coordinator Lt. Gen. Robert Blackman, speaking in an interview with Kyodo News on Dec. 23, suggests he is reluctant about drastically reducing troops in the southernmost prefecture. He said Okinawa is in a ''unique strategic location'' among the U.S. military's deployment locations around the world. (Kyodo)

The plane was the last of an additional batch of the aircraft deployed at the U.S. Marines' Futenma Air Station in Ginowan, joining 11 others that arrived in August, in addition to 12 deployed in October 2012.
