SAMAWAH, Iraq - A local Iraqi human rights activist and Japanese civic group members have detected radiation levels 300 times higher than normal around the remains of an antiaircraft gun abandoned by the former Iraqi army 2 kilometers from the center of the southern city of Samawah, the activist said Jan. 10. Japan's noncombat ground troops will be dispatched to the city to prepare for the deployment of core units to help Iraq's reconstruction. (Kyodo)
