YAIZU, Japan - Survivors and peace activists on March 1 mark the 50th anniversary of an incident in which 23 crew members of the Japanese trawler Fukuryu Maru No. 5 from Yaizu, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Rongelap Island residents were irradiated by a blast from a U.S. hydrogen bomb test at Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific. About 2,000 people marched to the grave of Aikichi Kuboyama, who was chief radio operator of the Fukuryu Maru. (Kyodo)
