NAGAREYAMA, Japan - A third-century clay pot featuring a Chinese character (in middle) has been found at an archaeological excavation in Nagareyma, Chiba Prefecture, indicating literate people had moved from western to eastern Japan by the end of that century, prefectural government officials said March 23. The 9-centimeter pot was found at the Ichinomiyajiri archaeological site in the city in the eastern Japan prefecture. Photo was provided by a Chiba prefectural cultural asset center. (Kyodo)
