Honda unveils minivan with 'communication enhancing' layout

TOKYO, Japan - Honda Motor Co. unveiled the Edix minivan on July 7 featuring a ''communication-enhancing'' seating layout to make it easier for passengers to talk to each other. The 4.29-meter-long Edix, which goes on sale across Japan on July 8 and in Europe in autumn, contains two rows of three seats, and the middle seats slide back to create ''a versatile communication space,'' Honda said.       QPS Research Institute successfully launched the first nano radar satellite.

      The QPS Research Institute (Fukuoka, Japan) launched the first micro radar satellite "Izanagi" from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in India on the 11th. The satellite, which was loaded on a shared rocket, climbed to an altitude of about 570 kilometers around Australia. The satellite was detached about 17 minutes after takeoff, and the launch was a success. About 500 people, including people from local companies that cooperated in the development of the satellite and children, gathered at the public viewing site of the Fukuoka Prefectural Government. After the launch of the second satellite, Izanami, in 2020, the number of satellites will increase to 36. Using radar, the satellite will have a resolution of one meter and will be able to make observations every 10 minutes, even at night and in bad weather.         Double Giken's Communication Tool for ALS Patients

        Double Giken has developed a technology to identify the words a patient thinks from the blood flow in the brain and project them on a screen for ALS patients who cannot move their eyelids or fingers. The technology is based on a device that uses near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to determine "yes/no" from brain activity. The patient selects one word at a time and only the vowel sound of the word to be communicated, and the number of words is used to analogize the candidate words to be communicated and show them on the screen. The system, which consists of a personal computer and a terminal, will go on sale in September at the earliest. It was developed with the support of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in collaboration with Professor Naoki Tanaka of Toyo University and others.
