Tokyo Governor's extraordinary press conference on raising the alert level of the new corona to the "highest level

On April 15, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike requested the cooperation of Tokyo residents and businesses in accordance with the Act on Special Measures against the New Coronavirus, after an expert panel raised the status of the new coronavirus infection in Tokyo to the most serious of four evaluation levels. Governor Koike said, "The metropolitan government is in a state of 'infection spread alert,'" and called on people to refrain from going out of the city and avoid using stores in downtown areas at night without adequate infection control measures. As for the government's "GoTo Travel" tourism promotion plan, which is scheduled to be launched on March 22, he said, "In light of the current infection situation, I hope (the government) will carefully reconsider the timing and method of implementation. Aomori gov. agrees to host nuclear fuel storage facility

AOMORI, Japan - Aomori Gov. Shingo Mimura speaks at a press conference at his office on Oct. 19 on his government's acceptance of a plan by two energy companies to build a spent nuclear fuel storage facility in the prefecture. Japan confirms China pumps gas or oil in E. China Sea

TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken by the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force on Sept. 19 shows a drilling platform in the Tianwaitian field developed by a Chinese consortium in the East China Sea. Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Shoichi Nakagawa told a press conference on Sept. 20 that Japan has confirmed China has been pumping either oil or natural gas near disputed waters in the sea. 10,000 protest against U.S. Army exercises in Okinawa

NAHA, Japan - Some 10,000 people stage a protest rally against military exercises of U.S. Army using live ammunition in the town of Kin, Okinawa Prefecture, on July 19.
