Koizumi's defense panel seeks global team play with U.S.
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi (R) receives a report from Hiroshi Araki, head of his key defense panel, at the prime minister's office Oct. 4. In the report, titled ''The Vision for Future National Security and Defense Capabilities,'' the 10-member panel called for redefining Japan's security alliance with the United States to promote global security cooperation while making the Self-Defense Forces smaller but more functional.
