(2)Mitsubishi firms vow safety on anniversary of fatal accident

TOKYO, Japan - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp. workers observe a minute of silent prayer on Oct. 19, the second anniversary of a fatal accident in Yamaguchi Prefecture involving a defective Mitsubishi truck. Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus and Mitsubishi Motors Corp., whose defective trucks led to the deaths of two people in Yokohama and Yamaguchi Prefecture, have decided to mark the anniversaries of their deaths by remembering the victims and pledging safety.           By the end of 2019, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. will test a new engine assembly line at its main Kawasaki plant (Nakahara-ku, Kawasaki City) that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to assemble engines to various specifications in a single line. The company currently has separate lines for small and medium/large engines, and will test the efficiency of the new line. In the future, Mitsubishi Fuso will consider introducing the system to vehicle assembly lines that are divided into light-duty and medium-duty trucks. Mitsubishi Fuso is promoting a "multi-directional line layout (multi-directional line)" to improve production efficiency. A multi-directional line is a production system that optimizes operations by using AI to divide unique processes for each specification from the main line when complex processing is required according to regulations or demand in the destination country.             UD Trucks and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation have introduced collaborative robots to their engine assembly lines on a trial basis, and Hino Motors will expand the use of robots to the production of heavy-duty truck parts by fiscal 2025. UD Trucks has introduced collaborative robots on a trial basis in the large engine assembly line at its Ageo Plant (Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture). In the future, the company plans to introduce collaborative robots by FY 2013 in the assembly of axles for heavy-duty truck parts at its Koga Plant (Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture), after ensuring safety through the use of communication and cameras.               UENO, Japan, Aug. 11 Kyodo - Relatives of the 1985 Japan Airlines jet crash victims pay tribute to their loved ones on Aug. 11, 2017, on the eve of the 32nd anniversary of the disaster, by floating paper lanterns on a river in the mountainous village of Ueno in Gunma Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo. On Aug. 12, 1985, Flight 123, en route from Tokyo to Osaka with 524 passengers and crew aboard, crashed into Osutaka Ridge in the village, killing all but four in the world's deadliest single-aircraft accident.
