        New tram starts operating north of Tokyo

        UTSUNOMIYA, Japan, Aug. 26 Kyodo - A light rail transit train carrying children and others runs through Utsunomiya in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, after a ceremony commemorating the start of the service is held at JR Utsunomiya Station on Aug. 26, 2023.           The current test vehicle, the L0 Series, is the first commercial version and recorded the world's fastest speed of 603 km/h in 2003. The improved test car shown to the public has a new top shape. In the L0, the front lighting and forward vision camera on the top of the car were moved to the top. Another feature of the L0 is that the gas turbine power generator required for the test line has been eliminated, and only the induction current collection system, which is the target for the commercial specification, is used to supply electricity.             On April 21, JR East opened its first shared office store, "STATION DESK Tokyo Marunouchi," in Tokyo Station. It is located near the south ticket gate of Marunouchi Station and occupies a former office of approximately 50 square meters. The 16 seats are available by reservation only, with six types of seating available to suit different work styles. The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with wireless LAN, power supply, and tea machines available. For the time being, the fee is 150 yen per 15 minutes, excluding tax. JR East has been operating "Station Booths," box-type shared offices in four stations in Tokyo, and plans to increase the number of locations to 30 in fiscal 2020. At a press conference held on the same day, Futoshi Sano, manager of the Business Creation Division, said, "We want to develop shared offices that are unique to stations, valuing every second of the workers' lives.               Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. will startmass production of all solid-state batteries using ceramics technology within fiscal 2019. The company will build a new mass production line in the battery-related production building at Yasu Plant (Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture). The production capacity is planned to be 100,000 units per month for the time being. The capacity of the prototype is more than 10 milliampere hours, 100 times higher than that of other companies' products, the highest level in the industry, and the company will accelerate its expansion into energy-related markets, including the lithium-ion rechargeable battery business acquired from Sony in 2005. The company will mass-produce surface-mounted "ceramic all-solid-state batteries" that use ceramic materials as the electrolyte.
