Work starts on Aomori-Hakodate bullet-train line
HAKODATE, Japan - Land, infrastructure and transport minister Kazuo Kitagawa (2nd from L) and Hokkaido Gov. Harumi Takahashi (2nd from R) kick off work to build a shinkansen bullet-train line linking the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido in a ceremony at Ono Town, Hokkaido, on May 22. The new line due for completion will cut the rail travel time between Tokyo and Hakodate in Hokkaido to three hours and 40 minutes, about two hours shorter than now. (Kyodo)
