Japan strikes gold in swimming, gymnastics
IZMIR, Turkey - Backstroke swimmer Aya Terakawa gave Japan its first gold medal at the University Games in Izmir on Aug. 13. Terakawa, who placed eighth in the 200 backstroke at the 2004 Athens Olympics, won the women's 50-meter backstroke in a personal-best 29.06 seconds at the Manisa outdoor pool. (Kyodo)
