Japan poised to ease beef import ban, backed by panel report
TOKYO, Japan - Japan's independent Food Safety Commission's prion research group discusses in Tokyo on Oct. 24 whether Japan may ease its two-year-old ban on U.S. and Canadian beef imports. The panel later released a draft report saying the risk of mad cow disease being found in North American beef is ''extremely low'' if import terms are met properly. (Kyodo)
