BEIJING, China - Representatives from Japan Carbon Finance Ltd. (L) and Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group in China's Shanxi Province (R) shake hands in Beijing on Nov. 17 after the Japanese consortium signed a contract with the Chinese group to purchase carbon credits equivalent to 2 million tons of methane gas in six years. Under the 1997 Kyoto anti-global warming treaty, companies in developed countries can obtain carbon credits in exchange for helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developing nations. (Kyodo)
